Clinical Research of the Acupuncture Therapy on Stop - smoking



Abstract
Clnical studies were done on 203 peoples (92 males, 11femals) who were treated with the acupuncture therapy to stop-smoking more twice in the Dept. of the Acupncture and Moxibustion, Jeon-Ju Hospital of Oriental Medicine in Won Kwang University from November, 1, 1991 to November, 30, 1992.
The following results are obtained.
1. Distribution of the reason to stop-smoking : health (84%). social reasons (10%). study(10%).
2. Distribution of the chief complaining disease in descending order : respiratory disease. G-I tract disease, circulatory disease and liver disease.
3. Distribution in change after acupuncture treatment. the decrease of desire to smoke and change of smoking taste (68%). the decrease of the only desire (21%). the change of the only taste(7%), unchanged (4%) and of the taste change. taste bad(72%). bitter(16%). grassy odored(8%).
4. The success rate in times of treatment in descending order : 4 times. 3 times. 5 times. 6 times. 2 times. 7 times and 8 times, therefore the success rate in 7.8 times is below.
5. After acupuncture treatment, total judgement of stop-smoking efficacy : recovered(24%), good(32%), moderate(27%), slight(5%) and unchanged(12%).
